Re-invent your teaching with Challenge Based Learning
15 Aug 2012Why is Challenge Based Learning imoportant?
Challenge Based Learning "incorporates the best aspects of problembased learning, project-based learning, and contextual teaching and learning while focusing on real problems faced in the real world. Challenge based learning engages students’ curiosity and desire to learn. It makes the solving of real problems the centre of the curriculum, gives students access to 21st century tools, and requires them to work collaboratively and manage their own time. It encourages students to direct the course of their learning and engage teachers in a supportive, very necessary role as guides."
Challenge Based Learning is an approach which has:
• An authentic connection with multiple disciplines
• An opportunity to develop 21st century skills
• The purposeful use of Web 2.0 tools for organizing, collaborating, and publishing
• The opportunity for students to do something rather than just learn about something
• The documentation of the learning experience from challenge to solution
• 24/7 access to up-to-date technology tools and resources so students can do their work
